YOLOATP

I like acronyms, and I think "YOLO" (i.e., You Only Live Once) is charmingly silly, but also true… just not in the way that I think it’s commonly used.

I generally don’t say “you only live once,” because I don’t perceive this as a “one and done” situation we find ourselves in. So my version of it is “YOLOATP” (pronounced “yo low ä tuh puh,” because… why not?). It stands for “You Only Live Once As This Person.”

Personally, I have no reason to think that when our bodies cease supporting what we call “life” that it’s the end of us. It’s the end of that body participating in this round of the Earthly human events that we’re all co-creating and participating in, but the essence of what we call “death” is a transformation and relocation of energy, not a ceasing of being.

My current expression as Ryan is not my only chance to exist and learn and grow and evolve, but it is my one and only chance to be here with this persona while you’re here with your current persona and for us to create new novel weird things together with our time as these current clusters of atoms and perceptions and opinions and perspectives.

You might’ve seen this quote at the end of my Snufflebear’s Guide to Life animation, and now you understand a bit more of why that was such a meaningful quote for me.

You now have a new acronym in your arsenal. Use it sillifully (like, “skillfully silly,” ya know?). 🙂
