Recovering from Christianity

A Hug the Universe series to discuss some problematic things about the Christian Bible

Religion has had an immeasurable impact on my life—not because I ever chose to be in one, but because my parents insisted that I follow the rules of the one that they believed in. I was small, they were big, I trusted them, and because of this trust, some of the holy falsehoods they believed seeped into me and planted roots.

I also live in America, a country that has been hugely impacted by religious beliefs. Even in the communities that prefer to see themselves as ”secular” and entirely removed from religion, they’re still growing in a garden where religious beliefs and influence make up a significant portion of the soil.

There are many religions and holy books, but I don’t think any of them have impacted the world to the same degree that the Christian Bible has, so let’s talk about it. My intention in writing this series is not to be crass and just rip Christianity and the Bible apart in an insulting way, but to look carefully and critically at one of America’s sacred cows that’s pretty sick.

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to reform (or pause and reflect). - Mark Twain

To start, let’s talk about Adam and Eve and what the Bible says they did to all of us.
